Hornby 2024 Diesel & Electric Locomotives

D1683 would be introduced in 1963 serving ably until receiving its TOPS number and BR blue colour scheme in 1973, becoming 47485. Wearing a variant of BR blue for much of its service life including the large logo, the locomotive would be scrapped in 2000 by MJR Phillips at Crewe.

This Railroad model fitted with a 3 pole motor and simple gearing, proving to be a reliable runner on any layout. The 8 pin DCC socket allows the model to be used on a digital layout where required and its railroad specification makes it ideal as a starter model

The Class 47 model of No. D1683 comes complete in a vivid BR two-tone green livery. Etching plates on the cab front are pre-fitted. The model is sound fitted with an 8-Pin decoder and has a pre-loaded Class 47 HM7000 sound profile. The model houses a state-of-the-art sugarcube speaker. As a Railroad Plus model, it has an enhanced livery with intricate detail.

Starting out life as D6744, the locomotive would be renumbered twice, both times under the TOPS system. Initially 37044 the locomotive would become 37710. The locomotive would serve with BR Railfreight before being transferred to Loadhaul. Stored for many years in a heavy state of disrepair as a parts donor, the locomotive is currently owned by West Coast Railways although it still wears the Loadhaul livery.

Replicating the prototypical Class 66 locomotive, our model sports a platinum jubilee purple and grey livery for the Platinum Jubilee that was painted in 2022. A special Union Jack flag adorns the sides of the model. This model is DCC-ready and compatible with our HM7000 21-pin decoder. Our No. 66754 model is painted in the classic GBRf blue livery. It includes two etched nameplates of ‘Northampton Saints’. This model is fitted with the Hornby HM7000 21-Pin DCC sound decoder with Class 66 HM7000 sound profile. The accessory bag contains a pair of snow ploughs, four vac pipes and two moulded coupling links.

A DB Cargo red livery is applied to this Class 66 model, with EWS-style stripes along the bodysides. The running number, No. 66012, is emblazoned on the side. This model is DCC-ready and compatible with our HM7000 21-Pin decoder. The accessory bag contains a pair of snow ploughs, four air pipes and two moulded coupling links.

The British Rail Class 803 AT300 is a new type of electric multiple unit built by Japanese rolling stock manufacturer Hitachi, based upon the Hitachi A-train design. While sharing a bodyshell with the previous UK A-train variants, the Class 803 differs in that it has no diesel engines fitted. The 'Lumo' service commenced on the 25th October 2021 with two trains per day travelling from London to Edinburgh in each direction on normal weekdays, however it is scheduled to be increased to five per day during 2022. It is anticipated that the fastest service will complete the journey in 4 hours 3 minutes, although most will take a little over 4 hours 30 minutes.

56060 'The Cardiff Rod Mill' entered service in June 1979, then un-named as the 60th member of the 135 strong class to be built. It was not one of the first 30 to be built, those built in Romania and therefore the locomotive was able to enter service without the need for a rebuild. 

All of the class would be in service with BR, until privatisation when all of the class would enter the ownership of EWS. Following EWS service, the locomotives would pass to various private owners. 56060 is currently owned by GBRf, awaiting conversion into the rebuilt Class 69.

The Advanced Passenger Train (APT) programme is remembered by many as one of British Rail's greatest embarrassments, an ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful design. The APT-P multiple units incorporated ideas that were well ahead of their time, most famously including a computerised tilting system which allowed the trains to navigate the tight turns of Britain's ageing railways up to 40% faster than anything else of the time.

In 2023, the Hornby Dublo Deltic model fills a hole in Hornby history, with the DP1 Deltic featuring on the cover of the 2nd edition catalogue in 1960, but never actually being made in physical form unlike the Class 55 Deltic, which did receive a Hornby Dublo incarnation. This model is fitted with a diecast body, 21 pin DCC decoder socket for digital operation, a 5 pole motor with dual flywheels and dual bogie drive. This is surely, not a Dublo model to be missed.
Please note that this model is non-sound. Hornby advise the 2023 catalogue information is intended to show that a HM7000 bluetooth controlled sound decoder will be available for this model. The factory fitted sound model is R30297TXS.

Initially, the locomotive was numbered 13069, with this number it was allocated to shed 38E in Woodford Halse in Northamptonshire. In 1957 it would see its first renumbering to D3069. The locomotive is one of a very small number of shunters to never receive a TOPS number, being absorbed by BR as departmental stock in July 1974. 

In departmental use it was renumbered to 966509 and it would wear this number until Jun 1979 when it left the departmental pool. The locomotive would be cut up in 1980 by BR at Thornaby, all traces of the locomotive were gone by the end of May.

Pack containing a pair of British Rail Intercity 125 High Speed Train class 43 locomotives finished in the GNER dark blue with red stripe livery, dubbed 'stealth bomber' livery by enthusiasts.

Our replication of No. 153361 sports the iconic FGW Blue ‘Local Lines’ livery, reminiscent of the prototypical units. This model is DCC-ready and is compatible with our HM7000 21-Pin decoder. The accessory bag will contain two NEM hook couplings.

This model replicates D4100 as preserved at the Severn Valley Railway, Kidderminster painted in the classic BR green livery with wasp striped ends and BR lion holding wheel crests.
Class 09 is a sub-type of the BR standard 400bhp class 08 shunters which were geared to give a higher maximum speed. Intended for service on the Southern region many of these locomotives were equipped with high level brake lines for shunting multiple unit stock.
The locomotive was named 'Dick Hardy' in honour of Richard 'Dick' Hardy who was a Divisional Manager with BR and oversaw various railway changes.

On 3 October 1987, 47522 was unveiled in a unique LNER like apple green livery and was named ‘Doncaster Enterprise’ at Doncaster Works by Councillor Gladys Ambler, Mayor of Doncaster. After this, the locomotive attained a ‘celebrity’ status.

No. 34 was an express parcels railcar and entered service in 1941. The railcar had a capacity of a 10-ton load for each journey. Double-hinged doors were a feature on the railcar. No. 34 operated from Southall until it was withdrawn in 1960. It was considered to be an efficient railcar due to the car’s trailer hauling capacity.

The GWR No. 34 Express Parcels Car model is finished in a GWR cream and brown livery.

The second operator of the Class 802 was TransPennine Express, their 802/2 5-car units referred to as 'Nova 1's as part of TransPennine's unique branding of the Class 802s built by Hitachi and given also to Great Western Railway and Hull Trains. The first 'Nova 1' unit entered service in 2019 with TPE operating the 802 on services between Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Built from 2017 to 2020, The Class 801 units first entered service on 16 September 2019 with LNER, which were two five-car 801/1 units joined together to form a ten-car train. Shortly following after were nine 801/2 sets, the modern popular train branded as 'Azuma' alongside the Class 800. This Pack contains 5 of the 9 coaches that make up a Class 801/2 unit. The additional 4 coaches are available separately as part of coach pack R40350.
