The GWR 56xx class 0-6-2 locomotives were built initially for the South Wales valley routes, where a heavy tank engine was needed to handle the coal traffic. Introduced in 1924 the class proved so useful that within 5 years 200 locomotives were in service in every corner of the GWR network, efficiently handling local goods and passenger services.
DCC Ready. 8-pin decoder required for DCC operation.

Length 150mm. DCC Ready, 8-pin decoder socket. Era 3, 1923-1948

First introduced in 1924 as Collett's design for the welsh valleys, the 56xx class was later classified 5MT in BR days. Powerful and sturdy they were mainly to be found in Wales and the West although odd engines might be seen almost anywhere in the GWR area.
