CM Models 1/1250 CM-P53 USS Mount Vernon, trooper, 1917-18
A 1/1250 scale metal model of USS Mount Vernon, ex-Kronprinzessin Cecilie, as a dazzle-painted trooper in WW1. Originally one of the famous German 4-funnel transatlantic liners, she was interned in USA after the outbreak of war and taken over as a troopship when USA entered the war and camouflaged.
In September 1918, Mount Vernon was damaged by a torpedo and was repaired in one of the graving docks at Brest. She returned to service in time to repatriate troops from Europe after the armistice but by then she had been repainted in overall grey. Later still she became USAT Mount Vernon but after a voyage across the Pacific to return Czech and German troops back home she was laid up in Maryland for 20 years before being scrapped in Boston from September 1940.
