Coastlines 1/1250 CL-BS03 Amagi a Japanese battlecruiser designed in WW1 and scrapped on the slip in 1924
The Amagi model is a a 1/120 scale waterline model in resin by Coastlines Models, CL-BS03. This model is fully assembled and painted in overall grey in the form that she would have been completed in 1923 if the Washington Treaty had not intervened
Amagi was the lead ship of a class of four battlecruisers designed during WW1 as part of the 8:8 Plan for modernizing the Japanese battle fleet. The ships were to be named Amagi, Akagi, Atago & Takao but only the first two had been laid down when a a disarmament conference was convened in Washington in 1922. Japan agreed to convert the first two to aircraft carriers and to cancel the last two. Shortly after work resumed on Amagi and Akagi, the Tokyo earthquake destroyed Amagi on the slip but Akagi went on to become the flagship of the aircraft carrier force that attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
As designed, the ships would have mounted 10x16" guns of the type fitted to the Nagato-class battleships but rumors persist that a new more powerful longer 16" gun might have been fitted to these ships and the Superior and USA models of these ships had these guns and turrets. Coastlines will make a model with these turrets as Takao, CL-BS03A, in 2022.
