Indefatigable was last in line of the British Battlecruisers and came under fire from Von der Tann. After a few minutes, Indefatigable received a number of hits aft in the region of her X-turret. It is believed that the after magazine detonated and blew the bottom out of the ship so that she began to sink by the stern, pulled out of line to starboard and came to a stop. A couple of minutes later she was hit by more shells amidships and around the base of the conning towerand A, P & Q magazines exploded. When the smoke cleared the ship had disappeared below the waves. Two survivors were picke up by a German Destroyer several hours later.
