USS Mount Vernon was the former German transatlantic liner Kronprinzessin Cecile that had been internened in the USA at the outbreak of WW1. The United States obtained ownership through their court system while the the country was still neutral and so the ship was immediately pressed into trooping as soon as the United States entered the war against Germany and given the name of George Washington' Estate. In 1918 she was re-painted in a US official dazzle pattern modelled here.
