Coastlines 1/1250 CL-M526 Wurttemberg, HAL combi-liner 1922-32
Wurttemberg is a 1/1250 scale, polyurethane resin model of an unusual ship by Coastlines Models, CL-M526.
Wurttemberg was completed in 1921 in the aftermath of WW1 with the intention of providing a fast freight and passenger service for South American countries with significant trade with Germany, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uraguay. The Panama Canal opened in 1914 and she was able to make use of this to access Chile more directly and her design optimised bulk freight with limited passenger carrying capacity. In the 1930s, she was replaced by a larger ship, Tacoma, and Wurttemberg was converted to a whale factory ship, Jan Wellem (see Coastlines CL-M527). Both these ships went on to serve German military intersts during WW2.
