Following the introduction of modern Freightliner wagons for carrying ISO deep sea containers many of the 4 wheel container flat wagons were adapted as runner wagons for shunting locomotives. The wagons were used as reach wagons, giving drivers a better view of the front buffers when approaching rolling stock and to extend the effective wheelbase of the shunting engine, ensuring signalling track circuits were activated properly.
