Invaders were redesignated B-26 between 1948-1965 and became known as the US-made multi-purpose twin-engine light bomber/attack aircraft Douglas A-26. The aircraft were active in conflicts through WWII and up to 1969, when only a limited number of some of the highly modified aircraft (re-named the A-26) are still in service.
Finally, a A-26 attack/bomber version in Air Force National Guard service was retired in 1972 and donated to the National Aeronautics and Space Museum.
