I Love Kit - Merit International 1/350 65307 HMS Ark Royal 1939 Aircraft Carrier Kit

In this Merit International 65307 plastic kit of the famous aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, Merit have produced an excellent companion for Trumpeter's kit of HMS Hood. In 1/350th scale these models are about 29" long. Both ships were the pride of the fleet at the outbreak of war in 1939. By 1941 both had been lost but had contributed massively.

A top quality kit of about 550 pieces. Length 696.4mm, beam 82.4mm, Hull split in two parts, one piece deck, Flight deck items include Swordfish x 5, Fulmar Mk 1 x 4, and Blackburn Skua x 4.

Commissioned on December 16 1938, Ark Royal was on the bottom of the Mediterranean by November 13 1941 but the ship had had a very busy career, most importantly launching the Swordfish aircraft that disabled the Bismarck and led to her destruction.

Ark Royal was designed and developed in the beginning age of naval air power. She had an unique double hanger decks design which facilitated larger capacity of airplanes on board, but at same time, made her more vulnerable because of a taller hull structure. Ark Royal Her short lived service career was not short with action. Her Swordfish was credit with the cripple of German Battle Ship Bismarck. Ark Royal had the reputation of being the “Lucky Ship”. Her luck finally ran out on November 14th, 1941 and sunk off Gibraltar after being torpedoed by U-81 on the day before. This is the first English Aircraft Carrier being produced in 1/350 scale. Special design hull halves to allow easy replication of the hull side storage compartments.
