Introduced to the market in 1988, the Volvo F16 achieved considerable commercial success largely due to its innovative “powertrain” line which was able to achieve a high level of driving performance, low fuel consumption and low running and maintenance costs. The exceptional features of its 6-cylinder engine were complemented by the innovative "Globetrotter" cab which provided exceptional on board comfort. The sturdy frame served as a developmental platform for the creation of numerous specially outfitted versions to meet a wide range of differing customer requirements. One configuration that was particularly appreciated and used by long and medium-range logistics operators was the canvass rear deck. This feature was characterised by good size/space ratios and further enhanced by the rear hydraulic platform which facilitated easy loading and unloading of goods.
