Floating dry docks, particularly those used to service ballistic missile submarines, offer obvious strategic advantages. The USS Los Alamos was based at Holy Loch in Scotland from 1961 until struck from service in 1994, servicing US submarines and performing a hardly noticed but very important duty at that highly secret base. In a somewhat different form the dock is still in use today, back in the USA.

Brass photoetched parts and a highly detailed resin casting for the superstructure has produced an interesting and well presented model that can be put straight on display.
