Murphy Models OO MM0186A Iarnrod Eireann 186 Class 181 EMD Diesel Locomotive
Murphy Models highly detailed models of the CIE class 181 locomotives, built by Electro-Motive specifically for the Irish Railways in 1966. These locomotives were fitted with EMDs reliable 645 engine, the 8 cylinders delivering 1,100bhp, a small increase in power over the earlier class 141 locomotives. The 141/181 class locomotives were withdrawn between 1991 and 2009 with one example preserved.
These models feature highly detailed bodyshells with excellent grille depth and fine grab irons. The side handrails are moulded in a flexible plastic to help prevent accidental breakages.
Internally a centrally mounted motor and heavy diecast chassis provides drive to all four axles and the ability to haul substantial trains.
Model finished as locomotive 186 in the final IE Iarnrod Eireann orange livery.
