Navis Neptun 1/1250 1182A HMS Snowberry an Improved Flower Class Corvette
HMS Snowberry is a second-hand, 1/1250 scale, waterline, metal model of an Improved Flower-class Corvette from 1940. The model is in excellent,original condition made and painted by Navis Neptun, catalogue number 1182A, see photograph.
Following experience with the earlier Flower Class Corvettes (see HMS Begonia), the break in the weather deck was extended to abaft the bridge in an attempt to make them drier in the long swells of the Atlantic.
To speed up deliveries of ships to the Royal Navy, some of this type were transferred from the US Navy and further ships were built in Canada for the USN. Ironically, the exchanged ships were mostly sent to the Indian Ocean because the USN had specified extra showers under the bridge wings and this facility came into its own in the tropics!
