Navis Neptun 1/1250 1202A IJN Mutsu Japanese Battleship 1941
Named after a province on the northern tip of Honshu, and the sister ship of Nagato, converted and modernised 1934 to 1936 Mutsu exploded and sank in the Hiroshima Bay near Kure during 1943 The cause was an explosion in the after magazines likely to have been a failure in the handling or storage of cordite charges. Active at Midway and Guadacanal. American divers investigated the wreck in 1947 but were unable to find the after part of the hull - it had been completely destroyed.
