Navis Neptun 1/1250 189N HMS Sir John Moore, a Monitor, 1915
Sir John Moore ia a second-hand, 1/1250 scale, waterline, metal model of a 12in gun monitor of the Royal Navy. These ships were ordered in 1914 to bombard the German Army in Belgium and France. The guns and turrets came, in the main, from the Majestic-class pre-Dreadnought battleships.
This model is in excellent, original condition, see photograph.
Following the German invasion of Belgium in WW1, the British Army needed fire support on the North Sea coast of the Continent. A number of shallow draught vessels were constructed specially for this service using the largest naval guns available.
