Prestige, style and affluence are epitomised in the superb, newly tooled 1:43 scale Oxford replica of this 1950s car. At first glance the SI type did not appear much different from its predecessor the R type but it was entirely new, with a host of improvements. The S type was officialy introduced in April 1955 and our version is based on a car launched a year later in 1956. The bodywork features the famous Mulliner fastback styling in shell grey - to give it the original paint colour - but it is in effect silver, with a black interior. In real life, the majority had automatic gearboxes although a very small number - only about 16 - were fitted with a manual gearbox. Power steering also became an option from 1956 onwards. Our model, with registration 490 JLC, has had some illustrious owners in the past, including Sir Alan Sugar and Elton John.
