BR BD type covered box container to diagram 3/050
The type BD containers were one of the most common general service types. These basic containers were used for the wide range of goods and products which don't need any special fittings other than protection from the weather and are well known for their association with the railways' furniture removals service.
Containers offered the ability to shift loads quickly between road and rail transport without reloading. Special container flat (conflat) wagons were built with tie-down rings for securing the containers, however containers were frequently seen being carried in conventional open wagons, secured with ropes around the wagon buffers and tarpaulin lashing points.
