This kit has been produced under the Ratio banner for many years and has now been merged into the Parkside range of wagon kits.
This kit builds a model of the standard SR triple-arc roof van on the 10-feet wheelbase chassis with even planked body. This body and roof design were the work of the SE&CR and later SR wagon and carriage engineer Lionel Lynes and became the standard the Southern, the same design being seen in the 4-wheeled PMV and CCT vans. Until 1936 the RCH 9-feet wheelbase underframe had been used, however by the mid-1930s is was becoming evident longer wheelbase wagons were better suited to running in fast merchandise trains and the 10 feet wheelbase was adopted. Following the 1939 build the '2+2' planking pattern with alternating 2 wide, 2 narrow planks was introduced. This narrow planks allowed undersized timber to be used efficiently. The final change came in 1945 when the first batches of vans with plywood side sheeting were constructed, still retaining the distinctive Lynes roof.
All three of these variants are available from the Parkside (former Ratio) range along with kits for the longer 4-wheeled even planked PMV, 2+2 planked CCT and a plywood sheeted version of these vans.
