Parkside Kits OO PC74 GWR Fruit D Van

This was the final design of the GWR Fruit Van (diagram Y11) of which 50 were built in 1939-1941. More were built by BR in the 1950s and some were in service into the 1970s. These finely moulded plastic wagon kits come complete with pin point axle wheels and bearings.

Glue and paints are required to assemble and complete the model (not included)

Built towards the end of the GWR many were built after nationalisation. Suitable for running at passenger train speeds these vans were widely used for perishable fruit and express parcels traffic. Following the loss of much of this traffic to road transport these vans were used on the Western Region engineering parts (ENPARTS) distribution network, set up to supply depots with exchange parts for the diesel-hydraulic locomotive fleet.

GWR chocolate brown was used on the lower panels of passenger coaches and for the entire sides of parcels and untility vans.First used in the Victorian era the GWR changed to crimson lake livery before WW1, but the two-colour chocolate and cream returned after the war and survived until nationalisation.
