To weather down the ballast in those locations and create a more realistic look Peco have combined their weathering products into this useful pack tailored to recreate the deposits left by steam locomotives.

These weathering kits contain various bags of weathering dust and dirt plus a bottle of track grime. Apply the dust and dirt to the track, then seal it with a wash or mist of PVA glue before adding the track grime for the finishing touch. The technique is easy and the result rewarding.
