Rapido Trains OO 940017 SR 36871 Dia.1379 8 Plank Open Wagon SR Goods Brown Small Lettering
Detailed model of the Southern Railway standard design 8 plank open wagons with their distinctive hinged top doors produced by Rapido Trains. These open wagons were the most numerous type built by the Southern Railway, with over 8,000 constructed between 1926 and 1937. The majority of these passed to British Railways ownership at nationalisation.
This model diagram D1379 wagon 36871 features the 9ft wheelbase chassis, SR 'Freighter' brakes and disc wheels. Finished in post-1936 SR goods brown livery with small lettering.
Rapido Trains have tooled their model to be able to produce both the initial 9ft wheelbase underframe based on the RCH 1923 specifications and the later 10ft wheelbase wagons built after it was realised the longer wheelbase was more suitable for running in fast goods trains. The chassis can be produced with the Morton handbrake levers, or the Southerns' independent 'Freighter' brake. Split-spoke or disc wheels are fitted as appropriate for each model.
