Rapido Trains OO 966004 SR A7 ex-SECR Class O1 0-6-0 Southern Railway Lined Black with Maunsell era Lettering
Highly detailed model of Southern Railway ex-SECR class O1 locomotive number A7 finished in the initial SR black with green lining goods locomotive livery.
This engine would have been SECR locomotive number 7, the initial SR numbering system using a prefix letter, A for Ashford, to identify individual locomotives from the different constituent companies until a new numbering scheme was established.
Designed by James Stirling for the South Eastern Railway and later modified with a larger boiler these class O1 locomotives served on many branch lines, including the Kent & East Sussex and East Kent 'light railways' into the early 1960s. The last O1 was withdrawn in 1962 with one example in preservation.
This Rapido Trains model has been carefully designed from archival materials including works drawings from the various phases of these locomotives lives and an on-site survey of No.65 at the Bluebell Railway. The chassis features a smooth-running mechanism, factory-installed speaker and sleak tender connection. and a warming firebox glow. The open cab interior has been fully detailed, completed with a firebox glow.
