Developed in 1943, the Tiger II, also known unofficially as the King Tiger, went into series production at Henschel in 1944. Henschel in series production. The Königstiger combined the requirements for armor protection and and firepower in an outstanding manner. The frontal armor, which was up to 150 mm thick, could not be hit by any of the by bullets from the on-board guns of enemy main battle tanks. The hull sides were armored up to 80 mm thick. Despite several massive bombing raids by the Allies on the Henschel factory in Kassel, a total of 492 Tiger IIs - including the prototypes and 50 vehicles - a total of 492 Tiger IIs were delivered to the troops.
