What better subject to compliment your 1/48 scale diorama than this U.S. airfield fuel truck model. The model is a modification of Item 32548 US 2.5 Ton 6x6 Cargo Truck and depicts a fuel truck typical of those that would have served during WWII.
The 2 1/2ton fuel truck was a vital cog in the U.S. military machine during WWII, supporting the American drive for air supremacy with its work refueling and oiling a whole manner of aircraft. In fact, it was a variant of a commonly-used 2 1/2ton truck that had its cargo bed replaced with a massive tank and pump mechanism, the side of the tank featured doors which allowed the crew access to pump the fuel. It was typically crewed by 2, featured 6-wheel drive which allowed it to tackle poor surfaces, and was powered by a 6-cylinder 4-stroke engine. It particularly proved its worth once the U.S. began to capture airfields near the front line without refueling facilities.
