Scottish Maid was built in 1839 by Alexander Hall and Company for George Leslie & Co. Built with fine schooner lines for speed to compete with steam ships between Aberdeen and London her design was influenced by regulations, taxes and fees based on tonnage and displacement.

The Baltimore Clippers could be painted in disreputable colors, with their sails torn or with pitch everywhere, but they were always elegant and fast into the wind. These ships dominated the seas in the late 19th century, when the first steamers started to do battle with their heroic predecessors. The Harvey was one of them, probably the fiercest. A complete kit, fully detailed and yet simple to build.

A large and highly detailed ship kit of traditional plank on frame construction. Laser cut keel, frame and deck sections provide a strong base structure, while many fine details are supplied as castings and etches. Pre-stitched cloth sails and many thicknesses of thread for ropes and rigging are included. Containing many thousands of parts (many of them nails!) this kit is not for the faint hearted, but the manual contains a clear, well labelled, step-by-step guide to construction. Although not a beginners kit the instructions, plus care and patience make construction achievable for most modellers.

Wooden boat kits require skill and patience, the easiest being those a solid or plastic (ABS) hull. More difficult but the more usual plank on frame hull construction. An absorbing hobby, models with intricate rigs may take months to complete.
