A great way to get outdoors in the summer, with a model to suit every level of ability. Start with one of the simpler models , such as the pod and boom flyers, with the propellor mounted out of the way behind the wing. With advances in battery and motor technology flights of ten minutes or so are easily achieved, ample time for an enjoyable flight. With 12v in-car chargers batteries can be charged quickly at the flying site.
Classic warbirds, including Spitfire, P-51D Mustang and the Focke-Wulf 190, provide higher speed flight but are more challenging and not recommended for beginners. There is plenty of fun flying models such as the Firebird Commander or Super Cub and once these are mastered the chance of a successful transition to high speed models is much improved. Crash damage is outside the warranty but reasonably priced spares are available. Follow instructions carefully and ensure batteries are well charged. Attaching a label with your name and address to the aircraft can improve the chances of recovery if lost.
