Power supply quality is really important, particularly with Digital products, so we are really pleased to offer these exceptional 18v, 2 amp power supplies. They are designated as “Medical Grade” because of their exceptionally high reliability so you can use them with confidence.Perfect companions for all Cobalt alpha powered products, they are also ideal for use with DCC systems such as the NCE PowerCab, where their slightly higher voltage will deliver an improved performance and higher train speeds as demanded my most modern image modellers. While it is above the original voltage that is supplied with PowerCab, we use this voltage level on ALL of the many PowerCabs that we regularly use for our very demanding production-line quality testing – and on our own test tracks – so we know how well PowerCab and other similar DCC controller products will perform when you use it!

Replacement transformer suitable for R8250 Train Controller
Single track controller designed to sit inside a control panel. This controller has a rotating dial to control the speed of your locomotive and a DPDT switch to control the direction, you can also switch it to the centre position to cut off the power to the track.

Analogue DC control is simple to understand and use. The controller unit supplies up to 12 volts DC to the two rails of the track, with power being collected by the wheels of locomotives to supply the motor. Altering the setting of the controller adjusts the voltage and thereby the speed of the train and reversing polarity reverses the trains' direction. One controller can be used to supply several locomotives or trains, however all trains will run and stop at the same time. When a second circuit of track is added another controller is required to run the circuits separately. Isolating rail joiners or isolator tracks can be used to make sections of a layout which can be switched off, allowing additional trains and locomotives to be stopped or stored in sidings while another train is running. These controllers are suitable for gauges N, OO, HO and O and for all manufactuers' trains. The alternative control system is DCC Digital Command Control which uses an on-board microprocessor fitted to each train. Offering a wide range of functionality including sound systems DCC is worth considering for a new layout. Please call us if you have any questions.
