The Robert E. Lee, nicknamed the "Monarch of the Mississippi," was a steamboat built in New Albany, Indiana in 1866 from the brilliant idea of Fulton and Livingston. The hull was designed by DeWitt Hill, and cost $200,000 to build. It was named for the great Confederate general Robert E. Lee, and gained its greatest fame for beating the then-current Natchez in an 1870 steamboat race in 3 days, 18 hours & 14 minutes.
The kit includes a solid wooden hull; machine turned smokestacks; photo-etched brass stanchions and decorations; white metal windows, doors, paddlewheels; wooden planking for deck and cabin and metal accessories. The instruction booklet is very detailed, taking you through every step of construction.
