Bachmann 47-042 O Gauge Set of 4 Locomotive Lifting Jacks

These substantial jacks are found at many mainline and heritage railway engineering depots to lift diesel locomotives and coaches off their wheels for maintenance.

Often arranged for synchronous operation to keep locomotives level during lifting the jacks are usually positioned ready for use at the approximate bogie pivot centre locations of locomotives being serviced and moved back from the line sufficiently to allow staff to walk alongside a stabled locomotive.

Several heritage railways have acquired sets of these jacks usually second-hand from closed BR depots and have adapted them for use with steam locomotives, allowing springs, axles and bearings to be easily removed for repairs.
