Kronprinzessin Cecilie was the last ship of NDL's Kaiser class to enter service. All four ships differed to some extent and, since they entered service over a nine year period, this final ship incorporated many improvements over the earlier ships. She was fitted with the largest steam reciprocating machinery ever fitted in a ship and her four quadruple expansion engines produced a service speed of 23kt.
During WW1, Kronprizessin Cecilie was interned in the USA . When America entered the war, she was taken over and converted to the troopship Mount Vernon. In September 1918, she was torpedoed but completed her voyage and was repaired at Brest for further service until 1920 when as USAT Mount Vernon she was laid up for the next 20 years. In 1940 she was offered to Britain as a troopship but refused as being too old and she was scrapped at Boston in September 1940.
