Navis Neptun 1/1250 25N SMS Seydlitz a German WW1 Battlecruiser 1913-16
SMS Seydlitz is a second-hand, 1/1250 scale, waterline, metal model of the German battlecruiser from 1913-16 by Navis Neptun, 25N. This model is in very good condition, see photograph.
Navis models have not been made for over four years, so this may be the only way to obtain a model in 1/1250 scale as good as new nowadays.
Flagship of the Scouting Group at the start of WW1, she was heavily damaged at the battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland but survived to be scuttled in Scapa Flow in 1919. Seydlitz displaced 23707 tons and carried a main armament of 10 x11" guns on a hull length of 656' and a beam of 93'.
After the Battle of Jutland, Germany removed the anti-torpedo nets from the capital ships to avoid damaged nets being dragged into the props and allowing the ship to be captured by the enemy. When Seydlitz was scutted in Scapa Flow, she capsized onto her side and the hull remained above water at low tide. When Cox tried to salvage the vessel with compressed air , the hull became unstable as she lifted from the mud and Cox decided that she could not be righted. Eventuallyparts of the superstructure were cut off and the remains became inverted. The upturned hull was towed away to Rosyth to be scrapped.
