The GWR changed from using a 16ft length underframe to the new RCH 17ft6in underframe in 1927, at the same time revising the body style of their covered box vans, most noticeably fitting inside framed vertically planked doors. This body style was continued, with minor variations, through to nationalisation.

This Parkside kit builds a a model of the first of these new design covered vans which retained the 9ft wheelbase of the older designs and as supplied will construct a model of the 'unfitted' diagram V33 design. 950 vans were built to this diagram between 1927 and 1932, numbered 114637-736, 116301-900 & 123001-250.
A further 936 vans were built with vacuum train brakes, numbered 114001-636 & 116001-300 on diagram V21. The kit can easily be modified using a vacuum brake cylinder and hose connection fittings from another kit (eg from using PS17 to model a non-fitted open wagon), or from Peco pack RO-6.

Peco produce a kits for the earlier 16ft length GWR vans, while the next development was the increase in wheelbase to 10ft, modelled by Parkside kit PS26.
