1:1250 Scale Airships & Aircraft

Ships of the Air & naval aircraft. Viewed alongside same scale battleships, the enormous size of 20th Century airships is immediately apparent! Navis' metal air ship models are 1:1250, matching the waterline ships, and are supplied in a Perspex display case that has a nicely finished wooden base with the model supported on two pylons. Finish is good in authentic colours and markings. The WW1 era aircraft are of course tiny and aren't in display cases.

A 1/1250 scale resin model of German Navy Zeppelin airship, L11 (factory number LZ41). L11 was a P-class Zeppelin airship and was one of the very few to carry a disruptive camouflage scheme in WW1. This camouflage scheme was applied later in the war when she was in use as a training ship in the Baltic. One of the longest lived wartime airships, she was eventually scrapped when worn out.

This is a 1/1250 scale Zeppelin P-class airship, LZ47, from 1916. This airship was built for the German Army and was unusual in that it carried a camouflage pattern with green and brown splodges on the natural fabric coloured background. The pattern resulted inthe nickname "The spotted cow" being given to this particular airship.

A 1/1250 scale model of L 11, a Zeppelin P-class airship in service with the German navy in 1916/17.

L11 was the longest serving airship in the German navy during WW1. She entered service in 1915 and took part in bombing raids on Britain and scouting for the High Seas Fleet. Towards the end of 1916, she was withdrawn from North Sea operations to train new airship crews and she was painted in this experimental camouflge scheme, which she wore until scrapping in September 1917.
