Parkside Kits O Gauge PS16 LNER 20-ton Locomotive Coal Wagon
Steam locomotives have a voracious appetite for coal and delivering this to sheds and depots in 20-ton wagons was more cost-effective than using small capacity wagons. The two sets of side doors helped the coaling crew to empty the wagons quickly when there was heavy demand.
This LNER loco coal wagons dates from the 1930s and features the more unusual cupboard style doors which were favoured by the LNER. These wagons were withdrawn in the late 1960s as steam locomotives were replaced steadily through that decade.
Supplied with metal wheels and 3 link couplings.
Parkside kits are well designed and can be assembled easily with basic model building tools and a little care to ensure the wheels are square and level. O gauge wagons kits can be particularly satisfying to build as the bulk of the model gives the feeling of constructing an actually useful rail vehicle.
