This kit builds a detailed model of the Midland Railway design 6-wheel composite coach with a lavatory compartment to diagram 516.
The installation of a lavatory, usually between two compartments, was one of the first improvements in passenger facilities provided on long distance trains. The introduction of corridor trains in the late 1880s relagated the lavatory stock to secondary duties, but these coaches continued to serve on long-distance stopping trains.

'Lavatory Stock' with toilets fitted in between the compartments was introduced for long-distance trains before the introduction of corridor stock. This ensures that some passengers travelling for many hours on the train had access to the lavatory, however often one had to chose the right compartment!

Parcels vans are always useful for any layout as these vehicles travelled far from their 'home' railway system conveying parcels and mails to all parts of the country.
The Midland Railway diagram 420 vans were built in 1885/6 on the 25ft underframes used for contemporary passenger stock with a compartment design allowing parcels to be stowed pre-sorted for destinations along the route. The last of these vans is believed to have been withdrawn from service by the LMS in 1935

The new railways offered great opportunities to deliver fresh produce and milk to the growing cities. Most of the railway companies built ventilated vans suitable for travelling with passenger trains to provide a premium express delivery service.
This kit builds a model of the Midland Railway diagram 418 express fruit and milk van, a design from 1893 using the 25ft underframe and same body style as the contemporary 4-wheel passenger stock. These vans were often used as parcels vans at times of peak demand and after the introduction of newer vehicles for the milk and fruit traffic. The LMS withdraw most 4-wheel parcels vans from service by 1930, preferring 6 wheel vans instead.

Modelled from the 40 Midland Railway D1272 design slat sided fish vans built 1920-22. Slat sides provided ventilation and cooling from the steady air-flow while the train was moving. These vans had long service lives, lasting around 40 years. In later years many of these slat sided vans were used for other traffic including beer and seasonal produce such as fruit and vegetables. Some vans may have had the slats sheeted over inside for general parcels service.

This Slaters kit builds a model of the GWR diagram O4 6 wheel Siphon milk van with slatted sides, the most prolific type of these 6-wheel vans.
These vans were built for milk in churns and fish traffic in the Edwardian era, the slatted sides providing cooling air flow around the load. Through the 1920s and 30s the slat sided vans were steadily replaced by newer bogie designs, but were deployed to other express loads, including fruit and vegetable traffic, beer in barrels as finally as engineering department stores and parts vans. Several lasted into British Railways service.
The kit features moulded plastic body sections with etched parts for the chassis and lost-wax cast brass detail parts. Supplied with wheels and sprung buffers.

This Slaters kit builds a model of a 6 wheel slat-sided milk van to either diagram O5 or O6. The diagram O5 vans were slightly taller than the previous diagram, making the lifting of churns easier, while diagram O6 vans featured end as well as side doors, allowing the loading of road vehicles and theatrical scenery. It is possible that these vans were originally intended for fish traffic, alongside the earlier slat sided vans, and most of these vans were withdrawn through the 1940s, though some were still used by the engineers after nationalisation.
